WAYS YOU CAN CELEBRATE DOGUST

For those that don’t know, DOGust 1st is a very special day. It was created by North Shore Animal League America as the universal birthday for all shelter dogs with an unknown birthday. So even though you may know your rescue pup’s Gotcha Day or Adoptaversary, you may not know the specific date they were born. If you don’t, DOGust 1st is the day to celebrate their birthday.

While we love all dogs, on August 1st, we are wishing all the rescue and shelter dogs a happy birthday! In fact, each of our bakeries will take a cake to their favorite local rescue or shelter so that the shelter pups can celebrate with cake. It is also the kick-off of our month-long DOGust celebrations. To get involved, you can just reach out to your local bakery and see what activities they have planned.

If you’re not near a bakery, no worries! We hope you take this opportunity to celebrate not only your pups at home but also honor the wonderful shelters and rescue organizations in your area. They do a PAWamazing job to help pups in need find their FURever homes.

If you need some ideas on how you can help celebrate DOGust, we’ve come up with a list of ways you can take PAWticipate while helping dogs in need.

YOU CAN HELP DOGS IN NEED, TOO!

Of course, one of the best ways to celebrate DOGust is to help dogs at local shelters and rescues. While adoption is the GRReatest way you can impact a dog’s life, there are a variety of ways you can improve the lives of local pups in need.

FOSTER

Not all the puppies and dogs a rescue or shelter serves can stay in the shelter. They may be too young or have a medical or behavioral issue that needs a dedicated person or loving family to open their home and their heart to a dog in need.

SPONSOR

Sponsoring a dog at the rescue or shelter is a beautiful way to show your support. You can even sponsor a kennel, dog run, or play yard.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteer some time to help out at your local shelter or rescue. Contact them to see how their volunteer program works and get started. Many have a variety of options available, with time commitments varying by role.

DONATE

Rescues and shelters are always in need of additional finances. But did you know you can donate supplies, too? Most are looking for cleaning supplies along with new or gently used pet supplies. Check out your favorite rescue or shelters website for a list of what they’re needing.

EDUCATE

Many rescues and shelters have dedicated teams that perform outreach programs to educate schools, libraries, and community groups on various animal-related topics. Their goal is simply to help improve the lives of pets and the people that love them.
